Scannography

Collage Scan
This image was created by scanning in all six sides of a rubix cube as well as two other images of a bracelet and earring.  I found they scanned best when I left the top of the scanner up.  I put them all together in photo shop by decreasing the sizes of the images and blending them together on a black background.  I added a stylize effect to the cubes which made their edges glow.  I'm not really sure what this is supposed to be, but I thought it looked neat! :)

I used my Lexmark Pro Scanner at home, it's not the best, but it did the job!

One Scan

One Scan
Both of these photos were taken in one shot.  It took me awhile to arrange them in a way that they were clear and how I wanted it to look, but I really liked the end product.  I just used a bunch of things that reminded me of my wedding day.  After I got these shots off the scanner that I liked, I edited it a little bit in camera raw.

Edge and Border Effects

Double Fade Border Effect
I think this is my favorite effect because it really enhances the photo.  I used tutorial #12 in the book for this one.  I used the rectangle tool with the shape layer on the outside border and used the rectangle tool with the fill pixels for the inside border.  I chose that color of blue because I thought it went well with the picture.

Flexible Brushed-on Effect
I used tutorial #11 in the book for this one.  I used the thick and heavy brushes to give it the effect I wanted.

Burned Border
I used tutorial #13 in the book for this image.  It was really easy to do! I just copied the layer, added the multipy blending mode and then used the rectangle marquee tool to select the inner border.  Then I hit delete and it took the inside back to the original image and kept the outside darker.  I copied the layer once more to make the border extra dark.

I chose to enter these photos in the Idaho Falls Magazine contest.  Here is a link to the website: http://www.idahofallsmagazine.com/gallery/contest.cfm. I liked this contest the best because you could you pictures from all over East Idaho, which is where all my pictures have been taken. They also had many different categories.  I entered my pictures either in the portraits or nature and wildlife categories.  I chose these pictures because they are my favorites and I am really hoping someone else will like them too!  I especially love the two horse pictures because I think they are so beautiful and I think it shows them perfectly in their environment.

Doorway

These were all my favorite pictures, besides the ones I used for my other assignments.  I tried to get a variety of images and objects.  I enhanced the color, brightness and contrast on all of them, making them look more the way I saw them in real life.  I also did HDR on two of them (I love HDR!).

Light Painting

Hotel
Bannock Ghost Town, 10/20/2011, 7:00 - f/8.0, 3.2 sec. - Canon SX130

This was such a neat assignment! These were both taken in the dark and made brighter with flashlights.  I took these both using a tripod and making the shutter extra long.  I especially like the one with the boots, I think it turned out really well.

Wallpaper
Bannock Ghost Town, 10/20/2011, 2:30 - f/4.0, 1/25 - Canon SX130

This is probably my favorite assignment so far! I really love the extra vibrance and color HDR brings to photos.  I used photomatix and dynamic photo to merge my photos into HDR images.  On the first to I took 3 different pictures at 3 different exposures to get all possible lighting.

4. Macro Abstract

Macro Abstract

Macro Bokeh

Macro Texture

Bannock Ghost Town, 10/20/2011, 5:50 - f/4.0, 1/30 - Canon SX130

I took one macro close up and another macro of a texture and blended them together in photoshop.  I did this by layering the texture on top of the picture and overlaying the layer.  Afterwards I reduced the opacity of the layer as well until I liked how it looked.

3. Reverse Shallow Depth

Nails Upclose
Bannock Ghost Town, 10/20/2011, 5:30 - f/4.0, 1/320 - Canon SX130

Far Away
Bannock Ghost Town, 10/20/2011, 5:30 - f/4.0, 1/400 - Canon SX130
These are my favorite pictures to take.  I love how interesting and cool they look without any editing.  All I did was focus on the foreground on one, and the background of the other.  My favorite is probably the one with the nails in the foreground.

2. Action Blur and Freeze

Splits
Bannock Ghost Town, 10/20/2011, 1:00 - f/4.5, 1/640 - Canon SX130

Dizzy
Bannock Ghost Town, 10/20/2011, 6:30 - f/3.4, 1/30 - Canon SX130

Ghost
Bannock Ghost Town, 10/20/2011, 12:30 - f/8.0, 6 sec. - Canon SX130

Light Ghost
Bannock Ghost Town, 10/20/2011, 12:30 - f/4.0, 4 sec - Canon SX130
These photos were a lot of fun.  For the freeze action shots, I took them outside with a faster shutter speed.  The ghost shots were harder to take, but had such a cool effect.  I took these both in a dark place and left my shutter open for 4-6 seconds.  In the middle of those seconds my model moved out of the shot making them transparent and ghost like.
